
Blood Collection Tube
The tubes are categorized by their additives and intended use:
- EDTA Tubes (Lavender/Purple Top): Used for hematology procedures like CBC, blood film, and HbA1c. Contains EDTA-K2 or EDTA-K3.
- Gel & Clot Activator Tubes (Yellow/Gold Top): Commonly known as SST (Serum Separator Tubes) for tests like LFTs, U&Es, and lipid profiles.
- Plain Tubes (Red Top): No additive or with a clot activator for serum testing.
- Heparin Tubes (Green Top): Contains Lithium Heparin or Sodium Heparin for plasma determinations.
- Glucose Tubes (Grey Top): Contains Sodium Fluoride and an anticoagulant (Heparin or EDTA) for glucose and lactate testing.
- Non-Vacuum Micro Tubes: Specifically designed for peripheral blood collection in pediatric and geriatric patients.
